The Wolf Man released in 1941 by Universal Studios introduced one of the screen’s most infamous and memorable werewolf creations.
Lon Chaney Jr. plays Larry Talbot a man who returns to his father’s castle in Wales where he meets the beautiful Jenny Williams (Evelyn Ankers). One fateful night she is attacked by gypsy who has turned into a werewolf. Larry kills the werewolf but during the ensuing fight is bitten.
The gypsy’s mother then tells Larry his fate has been sealed and that at each and every full moon he will become a werewolf.
Lon Chaney jr. went on to play the werewolf another four times in Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943), House of Frankenstein (1944), House of Dracula (1945), and Bud Abbott Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948).
